Akram Awwad

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Akram Awwad on April 7 at the age of 87.  He left this world in the loving arms of his wife and with his children around him.

Devoted husband of Laila.  Loving father of Jirah (Maria), Betty, Sulaiman (Lana).  Cherished grandfather of Amanda, Natascia, and Tariq. Dear brother of Kareema.

Predeceased by his adoring parents, Sulaiman and Aziza; and his dearly loved brothers, Karam and Nassif.

Born in 1939 in his beloved Palestine, in the beautiful village of Ein Arik, Akram grew up surrounded by family. Family was important to him and when it came time for him to start his own family, he married the love of his life, Laila. They made their way to Kuwait, and shortly after the birth of their first child, a son, they landed in Canada in 1967. Upon seeing hockey for the first time, it became Akram's favored sport and the high flying Montreal Canadiens, his team. Their second child, a daughter, came shortly after, and then their third child, another son, came a little ways after that. For 60 years his family was his whole world. He gave them his all and his unwavering love.

Akram was a hard working, honest, loyal, hilarious, joyful, generous, warm and loving man, he always had time, words, and a smile to those who came into his universe; be it family, friends, acquaintances or even strangers. He was a kind and giving soul. He loved and he was loved.

Akram will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, his children, his grandchildren, his nieces and nephews and cousins and the many other family and friends who loved him and were loved by him.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to tear down and a time to build and in between, years of wishing peace to you and peace upon you. ✋
