Obituary of Barry Corrigan

October 25, 1939 – November 21, 2025

It is with love and remembrance that we announce the passing of Barry Carl Corrigan on November 21, 2025, at the age of 86. Born and raised in Shawville, Quebec, Barry was the cherished son of Foster Corrigan and Winnifred Hodgins. He carried with him a lifelong fondness for back road Sunday drives to Shawville, which he enjoyed later in life as a way to revisit the places and memories of his childhood.

Barry was well known in Ottawa as a used car dealer for 50 years. His memorable slogans, “prices were born here and raised elsewhere” and “you will go far, in a Corrigan car”, reflected both his humor and his dedication to helping others. Many family members and friends fondly recall Barry’s generosity in ensuring they had a fair deal on their first car, a milestone he delighted in sharing.

He was a long-time Freemason and proud Past Master of Ionic Lodge #526 in Ottawa, where he valued fellowship and service.

Barry is survived by his daughters, Linda Corrigan-Stevens (Paul) and Colleen Barrie (Jeff); granddaughters Alyssa McIntyre (Matthew) and Julia Barrie; and great-grandchildren Marley and Lynden McIntyre and his son Ryan Corrigan. He is also survived by his brother Doug Corrigan. Barry loved visiting Doug on Sunday afternoon drives to Pakenham, where they would share long conversations, a sing‑along, and a cold beer together.

Barry was predeceased by his beloved life partner, Margret Petersen, with whom he shared many years of love and companionship.

Barry’s legacy is that of a kind and humble man with a big heart, who would never complain or ask for anything. He was a hardworking man who was so proud of his children and grandchildren, finding joy in their accomplishments and milestones. He had many friends in the car industry and truly loved his work. His memory will live on in the love he gave and the pride he carried for his family.

The family kindly asks that any donations made in Barry’s honour be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society.
