Obituary of Peggy Nora Eunice Hannon

It is with great love and sorrow that we the family of Peggy Nora Eunice Hannon (nee-Greening), announce that she has passed peacefully away on December 1, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s in Ottawa Ontario. Peggy was born March 19, 1946, in Musgravetown, Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland.

Peggy was predeceased by her cherished parents, Hubert Willis Greening he was known as (Burt) and Evelyn Alice Greening (née Matthews); her much loved brother Wade Greening, first husband Ches Sullivan, second husband, Roy Hannon, third husband and soulmate Robert (Bob) Nightingale.

She is survived by her precious children, Jodi Sullivan (Curtis Ralph) Suzanne Zagallai (Diawly Mbodj), and Stephen Hannon (Wendy Power); stepchildren Brenda Nightingale (Gary Thompson) Lynn Nightingale (Bob Connor) & John Nightingale; her siblings, Bonnie (Bill Sinnott) and Judy (Wayne Hutchings); and her sister-in-law, Beulah Greening. She will also be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephew, Jonathan Greening (Catherine Neville), Ashley Mason (Ryan Mason), Jennifer Niefer (David Niefer), Mandy Sinnott Buffett (Corey Buffett), and Stacey Follett (Jeff Follett).

Peggy was a devoted grandmother and step grandmother to Tammer Dau (Hedaya), Zach Dau, Seraj Dau (Kanixa Silva), Naddir Dau (Madi Steele), Amani Dau (Thomas McGee), Val Johnson, Samantha, Lindzy, Jessica, Adam and Ashley. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Luna, Eilha, Islo, Oais, Amalie and Kai. She will also be missed by her special Aunt Daisy Ivany who she had a loving relationship with and many beloved cousins including Betty Kean.

Peggy was from Musgravetown Bonavista Bay Newfoundland, and she loved to reminisce about her favorite childhood memories especially with her loved cousin Betty Kane.  Her fondest memories were made with loving grandparents, cousins and her parents, she often spoke of where she was born with a smile and love in her eyes.

Peggy was one of the most beautiful people—inside and out—that anyone could ever meet. One nurse shared after her passing that Peggy was always so well dressed, and her family is proud that even while living with Alzheimer’s, she remained as glamorous and well put together as she had always been. Peggy loved to dance especially to the jive, sing and randomly belt out songs like the hills are alive with the sound of music or what’s it all about Alphieeeeee…., ice skating and even roller skate in her youth where she was crowned queen several times. As a child she loved the roadrunner cartoons and would laugh at it until she couldn’t any longer.  She was a loving and fierce guardian of her siblings which they will never forget.  She possessed a vibrant, magnetic energy that naturally drew people to her and made everyone feel welcome.

Nothing meant more to Peggy than her family, especially her children, grandchildren (who she bragged about often), and great-grandchildren. She called 3 or 4 times a day just to check in on her kids and see what they were at, if everything was ok or if anything was needed.  She deeply adored her parents, sisters, brother, and extended family. Later in life, she found love again with her soulmate Robert, and together they shared a home, family, life, travel and road trips, and many cherished memories. She loved spending time with her friends having dinner, a glass of wine or an evening at the Casino.

Peggy had opened her own women’s clothing boutique which was frequented by many affluent customers in Ottawa.  She was also an avid animal lover who adored her beautiful chow/chow boy dog Quincy and in her later years, she worked as a pet food representative, a role she truly enjoyed as it allowed her to spend time surrounded by animals.

Peggy had many adversities and challenges in her life, but she met them all with compassion, pride and great strength.  She was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. God gave her to us and now we are giving her back to Him.

Cremation has taken place as per her wishes and she will be coming home to rest in her beloved Newfoundland. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
