Obituary of Eileen Chambers

January 26, 1935 - December 23, 2025

Eileen Chambers, 90, of Ottawa, passed away on December 23, 2025 peacefully in her sleep.  Born to Austin and Emma Donoghue of Oxford Mills, Ontario.  Eileen graduated from Kemptville High School and then went on to complete her nursing training at the Ottawa Civic Hospital in 1956.

She married Frank Chambers in 1958.  Eileen will be missed by her daughters, Kathleen Chambers (Dan), of Orangeville, Donna Moyer (Brent), of Toronto and Colleen Chambers, of Ottawa.  She is also survived by seven grandchildren who she dearly loved, Kristy (Tirell), Katie (Dayne), Mark (Cierra), Lauren (Owen), Jack (Amanda), Marty (Emily), and Cele and three great grandchildren, Forest, Ivy, and Lily.  Eileen was predeceased by her loving husband in 2009 and her brother Larry Donoghue in 2024.

Being a nurse was both her profession and who she was at heart.  She was always willing to care for others whether it was a bandaid for the neighbourhood child or supporting a family member with a more serious illness.  Eileen was a longtime member of the Britannia United Church where she made the best egg salad sandwiches.  She was the happiest when spending time with family, friends, neighbours, lifelong classmates, Eastern Star mates and bridge partners. Although she loved her grandchildren to bits, she happily beat them in rummy every time.  She was also the best cook ever.  We never refused a dinner invitation, and there were many, to celebrate everything from birthdays and anniversaries to days that end in ‘y’.  We’ll especially miss her chocolate chip cookies and amazing brownies.  They will never be as good as Mom made.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026 between 4-7 pm at the Pinecrest Visitation Centre, at 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa.  A Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Britannia United Church at 985 Pinecrest Road, Ottawa.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in support of the Ottawa Food Bank or the Canadian Cancer Society.
