Obituary of Richard “Dick” Dunbar Howey
Richard “Dick” Dunbar Howey
December 4, 1936 – December 1, 2025
Dick passed away on December 1, 2025, at the age of 88 surrounded by love in the Queensway Carleton Hospital unit at Park Place retirement residence.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife and partner of 32 years, Judy. Father of James (Nicole), Jennifer (Peter Burrill) and Martha (Jeff Barber); stepfather to Ron Ingram (Ana) and Karen Valley (Andrew), and grandfather to Austin, Micah, Ashley (Callum Duggan), Sidney, and Lucille.
Predeceased by his parents Frances P. Dunbar (d. 1999) and Richard W. Howey (d.1985), and beloved pets Fluffy, Brock and Myra.
Following a long career with Agriculture Canada, Dick went on to volunteer for many community organizations including Britannia United Church and was a very avid train enthusiast – both as a hobby and as a citizen of Ottawa (he loved to ride the O-Train and travel by VIA Rail whenever possible).
A reception to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, January 10th, 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Britannia United Church, 985 Pinecrest Road (fully accessible, plenty of parking). Private family burial will take place in the spring.
Dick supported a number of charities and initiatives and would have encouraged you to do the same. If wishing to make a donation in his memory, please consider the Ottawa Food Bank as they supply the many food pantries and cupboards within the greater Ottawa area, ensuring a widespread impact in the city.
As Dick would say, God Bless You – and that he was blessed to have had so many wonderful people in his life!
