What a life you led Edith! I am so happy to have been part of it. When I met Ruth in my 20’s, I didn’t realize then that I was meeting my second mom, her own mom. You even had the “look” that my mom would give me to straighten me out. I loved the time we spent together. We both loved gardening and golfing. You were the only person I never yelled at when you hit my golf ball by mistake. Your flowers in your backyard were sights to behold. And your stories! I was always in stitches after hearing one. Your daughter, Fran, is carrying that attribute forward. Your love for helping others has also moved forward in your family. It is amazing to be part of any project run by a Merkel member. I am sad that you have left us but I am sure you are where you need to be now. My husband, William, myself, and our two sons Alexander and Connor would like to offer condolences to the entire family. May you rest in peace Edith. Blessings, Marlene Simpson

Please accept our condolences on the passing of your lovely Mother, Edith. She was a pleasure to know and served faithfully in her quiet way. I attended the Home League, lead by your Mom and when she retired I took over her position and trust me, it was a hard act to follow! She was very supportive of me. I also remember all the Christmas Puddings your Mom and Rosie made every year for so long, I can't tell you how many years! Even after I moved away I had someone send me one of the delicious puddings. Edith had a beautiful life, and we are thankful we met her. Our prayers are with you all.
