Obituary of Richard Ian Stuart
Richard Ian Stuart passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, surrounded by love, at the age of 73. Richard is deeply missed by his devoted wife of 52 years, (Marie) Louise Stuart, and his beloved son, Robert Joseph Stuart (51). He is also survived by his brother, Ronald Stuart (83). Richard was a proud and affectionate companion to his three dogs, Romy, Goldie, and Quiski, who were never far from his side.
From the age of 16, Richard worked as a truck driver, a career that reflected both his strong work ethic and his lifelong passion for vehicles. A skilled mechanic, he had a special love for trucks, engines, and anything that could be fixed with patience and know-how. In his youth, Richard was an accomplished car racer, famously driving his 1969 SS Camaro to numerous wins in his late teens and early twenties. That same car also played a memorable role in his life — it was the first thing that caught Louise’s attention, sparking the beginning of their life together.
Richard found joy in simple pleasures: camping trips, days spent boating, and quietly supporting Louise at horse shows, where he was a steady and unwavering presence. Above all else, Richard had a deep love for animals of all kinds, a compassion that was evident throughout his life.
Visitations will be held at Pinecrest Remembrance Services, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, on Thursday, February 12, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, February 13, at 2:00 p.m.
