Obituary of Phyllis Hanna
We are profoundly sad to announce the passing of our beloved mother, Phyllis Hanna, on March 8, 2026, at Queensway Carleton Hospital, after a brief illness. At age 90, Phyllis’s heart could no longer keep pace with her vibrant personality.
Phyllis is survived by daughters Karen Broadfoot, Debra Hanna (Dave Perkins), Pat Gauley (Randy) and Gail Wall (Jeff); granddaughters Caleigh, Cheyla and Kelsey (Andrew); grandsons Allan and Tommy; great-granddaughter Hazel and brother Mike Nolan (Deb).
Phyllis drew on her quiet strength and the support of loved ones after the deaths of her husband Bill in 2019, following 65 years of marriage; her son Alan in 2022 and sister Doreen Blouin in 2025.
A mother of five before age 26, Phyllis always put family first. She loved hosting large family feasts and making character cakes and enjoyed nature, reading, playing cards, travelling, televised sports (especially curling) and her late German Shepherd.
Bill and Phyllis divided many happy retirement years between Carleton Place and Florida. After Bill’s death, Phyllis's new life at Carp Commons Retirement Home included numerous activities with new-found friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 16, at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel (2500 Baseline Rd, Ottawa) with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Phyllis’s memory to a charity of your choice.
