Obituary of Ruth Westerman

Ruth (Ruthie) Alice Westerman 88, Ottawa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.  Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Clara (Shaw) McClair.  

Coming from a large Nova Scotian family of 11 siblings, Ruth (Ruthie) was the funny and loveable big sister who loved her siblings, always staying in touch with a phone call.      
As a military spouse, she supported her husband James through many years of military life, often handling the responsibilities of family and home on her own, a testament to her strength, dedication and love for her family.  After becoming a widow Ruth sold the family home and moved to Orville St., where she made many friends, enjoying wonderful conversations with her neighbours.  In her final years Ruth moved into Wildpine retirement home where she spent many happy hours with the other residents.      

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Murna (Steve), Yvonne (Cliff) ; Grandchildren, James (Tracy), Nicole, Lindsay (Owen), great granddaughter , Hadley; 7 siblings. She was predeceased by her husband, James; daughter, Joan; 4 siblings.

Special thanks the staff at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice, Bayshore nursing staff, Wildpine retirement home, for the compassionate care and support given to our dear mother. 

Cremation has taken place, private graveside service will be held by the family at a future date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Ruth's name to the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice.
