Obituary of Grace O'Brien

Grace Gertrude (Hagley) O’Brien aged 97, passed away peacefully at the Smith Falls District hospital on February 11, 2026, with her family present.

 A small, private burial service will be held with immediate family at the Pinecrest Remembrance Services, Ottawa.

Grace was born in Belleville, Ontario to Gertrude Blodwin (Mayo) Hagley and John Robert Browning Hagley on October 20, 1928.  She attended high school in Belleville and left at 16 years of age to work in Montreal. She started her career working at Dominion Textiles and later worked as a teller at various banks in Montreal. She met the love of her life Francis (Red) John Conway O’Brien and was married in Montreal on March 5, 1949. Grace and Frank loved the outdoors and lived in various country homes during their lifetime. Grace enjoyed spending time with family, cooking and gardening and moving to various homes across Canada.

Grace is survived by her children, Lee (Al), and Brendan (Lori). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brendan Verhey, Todd Campbell, Carlin Campbell, Tara Campbell and Dee Dee Hitchcock (Max). Grace also loved her three great-grandchildren, Alicia Prud’homme, Owen Maxwell and Logan Hitchcock. Grace is preceded in death by her husband Frank (Red) O’Brien, her daughter Colleen Campbell and her grandson, Kerry Duford. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Sit with Me Dog Rescue.
