Obituary of Randall Fraser Klotz
Randy passed away peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital, surrounded by family, on March 30, 2026, in his 75th year. Loving and devoted husband of Viviane Boily for 22 years, until her untimely recent passing in December, 2025. Predeceased by his parents Carl and Peggie Klotz of Ottawa, and his older brother Derek (Wendy) of Calgary. Survived and indelibly remembered by his brother Brian (Linda), sister-in-law Elaine Boily-Nichol (Michael), nieces Katherine Schlosser (Drew) and Elizabeth MacIntyre (James), nephews Christopher Klotz (Kirsten) and Alex Boily (Brittany), and cousin Doug Skuce. Also warmly remembered and appreciated by his many great nieces and nephews, in-laws, colleagues, neighbours and friends, whose lives he touched and brightened.
He grew up happily in Ste. Anne de Bellevue, Que, graduated with a Commerce degree from Queen’s University in 1973, dabbled in the banking industry in Montreal, before moving to Ottawa in the mid-70’s to become a finance officer at Health Canada, where he made a career for himself till his retirement in 2008. An engaging and quick-witted conversationalist, Randy made fast friends readily throughout his life. He enjoyed bare-boat sailing in the Caribbean in his younger days, and more luxurious cruising around the globe with Viviane in retirement.
Randy was an ardent music lover and audiophile. His house was filled with high-end speakers, amplifiers and an enormous collection of CDs, records and taped music of all sorts, with an emphasis on classical and jazz. He invariably took over managing the playlist at any party or gathering he was invited to … which were many! He was also a technology, tool and gadget fan, and could never resist a sale at Princess Auto.
Thanks to the staff of the Ottawa General 6th Floor and Palliative wards for their compassionate care over his final days. A joint interment ceremony of Randy and Viviane together will be held at Pinecrest Cemetery on their wedding anniversary later this summer.
