Obituary of Hariharasankaran Vaidyanathan

It is with deep sadness that the Vaidyanathan family announces the passing of Hariharasankaran “Vaidy” Vaidyanathan. Vaidy passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026 in hospital, surrounded by family at the age of 83.

Survived by his beloved wife Chandra; loving sons Sammy and Hari; treasured grandchildren Sterling, Sigourney, and Scout; cherished Ramachandran and family; and dear nieces and nephews.

Vaidy had many friends who will deeply miss his humorous, kind, and exuberant spirit. He enjoyed gatherings and functions and would relish any opportunity to tell stories, jokes and converse with family and friends.

Born to Rajam and Hariharasankaran in the City of Tanjore, Tamil Nadu, India on February 7, 1943, Vaidy was the oldest, and the last surviving, of 3 children.

After completing his studies in Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT), in Kharagpur, West Bengal, he enjoyed a long and successful career as a civil engineer, beginning at a firm in Hyderabad. His career took him to the UK and eventually Canada, where he would spend much of his career working with the Government of Canada in Ottawa.

Vaidy and Chandra were married in 1974 and moved to Ottawa, Canada in 1975. It was here that they put down roots, raised their family; including their beloved dogs Junior, Kemochi and Krish; and established a large community of friends and loved ones.

Vaidy touched the lives of many people and he will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Road on Friday, April 17th at 10:30AM.
