Obituary of Helena Archer

ARCHER, Helena Violet Agnes “Dolly” (Villeneuve) (née Empey) passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, April 21^st, 2026, at the remarkable age of 106.

Born on March 4, 1920, to John Simeon Empey and Emily Jane Empey (née French), of Ottawa. Helena lived a long and full life marked by resilience, independence, and dedication to her family. She was predeceased by her first husband, J. Leo Villeneuve, and her second husband, Victor A Archer. She is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Swan (Paul) and stepdaughters, Deborah McGrath (John) and Karen Ford (Rob).

She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Susan, Jeff and Debbie (Eric), Ashley, Chris (Roxane), Emily, Benjamin, Madison, and John-Alan, as well as great-grandchildren, Vanessa, Brandon, Cassandra, Samuel, Aria and Aidan, several nieces, nephews and close friends.

Helena was a retired public servant who enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including ceramics, doll making and knitting. She enjoyed telling the stories of family history and growing up in Ottawa. 

She will be forever remembered by her family and friends for her strong character, storytelling, and sense of humor.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Cole Funeral Services at Pinecrest Cemetery, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, (613) 831-7122 on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 10 am.  A Service in Memory of Helena will be celebrated in the Chapel on Thursday at 11 am. 

Inurnment Pinecrest Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory to the Ottawa Humane Society and/or Canadian National Institute for the Blind would be appreciated.
