Obituary of Luigi Filoso

It is with the greatest of sadness that the family of Luigi Filoso announces his passing on April 24, 2026, at home, surrounded by the love of his family.

Beloved husband of 64 years to Angela, Luigi was a devoted father to Dino (Joan), Anita, Marina (David), and Nino (Lisa). He was a proud and loving Nonno to his grandchildren: Alexandra (Stefano), Jessica (Jason), Nick, Joshua, Megan, Darian, Andrew, Maria, Jayden, Brianna, Matteo, and Nicco. His joy grew even greater with the arrival of his adored great-grandchildren: Nico, Theo, Lucy, Vera, and Audrey. He was predeceased by his daughter in law Lucie Legault-Filoso.  

Luigi was born on April 20, 1939, in the small town of Pretoro, Italy. In 1954, he immigrated to Canada, where he built a life rooted in hard work, resilience, and deep love for his family. Despite the many years spent in Canada, his heart always remained connected to his beloved hometown and Italian heritage.

He leaves behind his dear brothers, Antonio and Angelo, who will continue to honour and cherish their shared roots and traditions.

Luigi will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to family, his strength of character, and the warmth he brought to all who knew him. His legacy of love, tradition, and togetherness will live on through the generations he so deeply treasured.

He will be lovingly remembered and profoundly missed by all his family and friends.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Kidney Care Clinic and to the dedicated team of nurses and doctors in palliative care for their compassionate and attentive care of Luigi.

Visitation will be held at the Pinecrest Visitation Centre, 2500 Baseline Road on Thursday, April 30th from 2:00PM to 7:00PM. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 427 Booth St on Friday, May 1st, 2026 at 10:00AM followed by entombment at the Pinecrest Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
