Obituary of Mounir Fouad Massoud

MASSOUD, Dr. Mounir Fouad, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend passed peacefully, at age 96 on July 11, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Mounir was a man of many talents and passions. He earned his Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the King Fouad I University in Cairo, Egypt. He went on to earn a Masters degree then a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY in 1962. He then served as a longtime Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Sherbrooke, in Quebec, where he pursued a distinguished and accomplished career from 1968 until 1994, shaping the lives of countless students. His commitment to education extended to mentoring young engineers, leaving a lasting impact on the profession he cherished.

He was a devoted member and valued leader of St. George and St. Antony Coptic Orthodox Church as well as of St. Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, of 69 years, Susie Massoud (née Samuel), and their two children: Sherief (Kathy) and Habib. He will be deeply missed by his three grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Grandpa Mounir”: Lisa (Pouya), Andrea, and Eric. Mounir’s memory will live on through his family, including great-grandchildren: Raina and “Baby Frank”.  He will be dearly missed by his siblings: Nelly and Magdy
(Marie-Claire), as well as by his many nieces and nephews, whose lives have been enriched by his unwavering love and support.

Mounir was predeceased by his parents Dr. Fouad Massoud and Suzanne Massoud (née Mahrous), and by brothers: Samir, Amir and Maher, as well as by his great-grandson, Gabriel.

A private, immediate family only funeral service to celebrate Mounir’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, in St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church,1 Canfield Road, Nepean, at 12 noon. Interment to follow at Pinecrest Cemetery.
