Obituary of Joseph Daniel "Dan" Mombourquette
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Daniel “Dan” Mombourquette, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a courageous battle with dementia.
Dan was the beloved husband of Marguerite for 59 years, devoted father of Jason (Tania) and Kim (Andrew), proud Grampy to Oban, Mackenzie, Desmond, and Nora, and affectionately known as “Papa Smurf” to Luca. He was a cherished brother to his Newfoundland siblings, Geraldean and Kevin, whom he was grateful to find later in life; a beloved brother-in-law to Georgette, Germaine, and Vincent; and a caring uncle to many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Born in Sydney, Cape Breton, Dan carried his East Coast roots proudly throughout his life. Known for his kindness, generosity, quick wit, and gift for storytelling, he brought laughter, conversation, and a sense of belonging wherever he went. Family was the centre of his world, and his greatest joy was the time spent with those he loved.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of St. Vincent Bruyère Hospital for their exceptional care, compassion, and dignity throughout Dan’s final journey.
Dan leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Fair winds and following seas, Dan. Your voyage is complete, and you are finally home.
As expressions of sympathies, donations to St. Vincent Bruyere Hospital Palliative Care would be appreciated.
