Douglas Forsyth

Obituary of Douglas Hugh Forsyth

Queens Law ‘62

Douglas passed away peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on March 3, 2025, after battling with primary progressive aphasia (PPA) over the past few years, handling his condition with grace and tolerance.

Doug received his early education in Ottawa, his undergraduate degree from Carleton University and Queen’s University Law School (1962). Called to the bar and practiced various areas of law in Ottawa, retiring in 2000.

Doug loved his family and friends. His beloved cottage at Aylen Lake, his Scottish heritage, the annual Robbie Burns Day celebration at home with friends and family, his Famous Grouse Scotch, was an avid reader (especially WWI and WWII and the American Civil War), and was a proud pilot of a Cessna 72 for over 20 years.

Son of Archibald & Edna (nee Smith) Forsyth, predeceased by brother Garry. Husband of the late Patricia (Brownell) and survived by second wife Sandra (nee Crosby).

Father of the late Cynthia (Micheal Turton), Douglas (Joanne Wylie) and Patricia (Dale Stevenson). Stepfather of James (Cait Dwyer), the late Robert, and Jacinda (Mark Wilson) Bain. Grandfather of Steven (Andrea), Jason (Cassidy), Alana (Devan) and Matthew Turton, Kyle and Adam Fosyth, Kathryn and Benjamin Stevenson and step grandfather of Shannon (Jose Javier) and Liam Bain.

The family would like to thank the services of Ottawa Health at Home, CBI Home Health and Para Med and the staff of Robertson House. Sandi was assisted at home with his care by numerous PSW’s from Carefor and CBI. Thank you, to each and everyone.

A Private Family graveside service will take place. Family and Friends are invited to A Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2025 in the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa. A reception will follow.
