Obituary of Arthur Falconer

Arthur "Roy" Rowland Falconer

October 18, 1928 – February 22, 2025

Roy peacefully took his final rest on February 21, 2025. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Edythe, and is survived by his children, Lance Bennett and Rachel O’Neil (Terry), his grandchildren, Stephen Gervais (Anne Yee), Lauren Popowicz (Adam), and Shelbi O’Neil (Billy Holmes), as well as his great-grandchildren and cousins in the UK. He was also survived by brother and sister in law Joe and Celeste Woloshyn and his nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Ellen Falconer, his brother, Gwynne (Cath) Falconer, and his daughter-in-law, Charlene Gervais and his brother in law and  sister in law - Tom and Lynn Coutu. 

Born in Wales, Roy pursued his studies at Cambridge University, where he thrived academically. He became a mechanical engineer, a career that took him across the globe. His love for travel and adventure led him to work in places such as New Guinea, Nigeria, and on Arctic expeditions. In the early 1960s, he moved to Canada, where he later met Edythe. They married on May 1, 1974, building a life filled with love and shared experiences.

Roy was a kind and loving man, always ready to help and encourage those around him. He was fearless and had a wonderful sense of humor—qualities that made him truly special. The world could use more people like Roy.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Carlingwood Retirement Community’s memory care floor, who recognized Roy’s warmth and spirit and treated him with the same kindness he shared with others.

A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, March 21, 2025, 1:30 p.m. at Cole Funeral Services & Highland Park Cemetery, 2037 McGee Side Rd., Carp, ON. Inurnment and Reception to follow. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ontario or the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
