Cecilia Gorman

Obituary of Cecilia Gorman

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Cecilia Morton Gorman, who left us peacefully in Ottawa on March 10, 2025, at the age of 70. Born in Toronto on July 2, 1954, Cecilia’s life was marked by her unwavering love for those closest to her, her compassionate nature, and her dedication to helping others.

Cecilia was the daughter of Charles Salathiel Morton and Edith Romanchuk (nee Schodl), both of whom predeceased her.

She was profoundly shaped by the loving guidance of Johanna Witt, her "Mutti", a maternal influence during her early years, who provided Cecilia with the care and nurturing she later passed on to her two sons. Johanna’s warmth and wisdom laid the foundation for Cecilia to become a loving and dedicated mother.

Cecilia was also deeply influenced by Agnes MacDonald, her adopted mother, who provided Cecilia a secure and loving environment in which she blossomed into the woman she became. Agnes also served as an important nursing role model, inspiring Cecilia to follow her own path as a registered nursing assistant. Cecilia was predeceased by both Johanna and Agnes, as well as her adoptive sister, Anna.

Cecilia is survived by her two sons, Brendan, married to Patricia, and Charlie, married to Janine. She found joy in her grandsons, Kyle and Quinn. As a mother and grandmother, Cecilia imparted the values of hard work, resilience, living life with humour, as well as teaching her family the importance of caring for others and staying active.

In her professional life, Cecilia was a dedicated nurse, showing compassion and care for her patients, as well as working hard to improve the lives of her fellow nurses. She was also an avid athlete, living an active and vibrant life. She instilled this love of physical activity in her sons, encouraging them to embrace a healthy lifestyle.

Cecilia’s legacy lives on in her family, her friends, and all who were touched by her warm, giving spirit. Her life was a testament to the power of love, the importance of nurturing others, and the impact of strong, positive role models.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association.

May Cecilia rest in peace, embraced by the love she gave so generously throughout her life.
