Obituary of Elizabeth Heale
We are sad to announce the passing of Elizabeth (Betty) Anne Heale, nee Gascoigne, on April 18, 2025. Betty had many health challenges in her life which she met with a stubborn determination. In the end, she died in her sleep while receiving treatment for lymphoma at The General Hospital. She was 83 years of age.
Betty’s life was a rich one. Her early years were spent in Stirling Ontario with her mother and grandfather, a dentist affectionately referred to as “Gampy”, while her father served overseas in World War 2. She spent most of her life in Ottawa but also lived many years in the Toronto area.
Her wide circle of friends included relationships formed in childhood, during her time at Queen’s University, or through common interests such as Jaycees, figure skating, politics, bridge or world travel. She was an active member of Knox United Church and brought a bright smile and brightly coloured wardrobe with her on Sundays. She was also a lover of the performing arts and regularly attended local productions until her final weeks.
Betty enjoyed her years with her family at Jordan’s Cottages on Christie Lake as an adult and a family cottage on Green Lake in her youth. She made many treasured memories in these beautiful places.
A devoted older sister, mother and grandmother, she delighted in celebrating the people she loved with an unparalleled enthusiasm. She was an especially committed cheerleader for her beloved granddaughter and never missed an opportunity to show her support.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Douglas Heale, their 3 children Robert, Jeffrey and Jennifer, her granddaughter, Evelyn Shaw, her siblings Ron (Guido), Val (Jeff - deceased), James (Jodi), her brother-in-law Richard (Patty) and many nieces and nephews.
Her life will be celebrated with a visitation on Thursday, May 1 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place on Friday May 2 at 2:30 pm at Cole Funeral Services & Pinecrest Remembrance, 2500 Baseline Rd. Ottawa. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow
