Robert Warburton

Obituary of Robert Earle Warburton

It is with profound sadness that we share the loss of the loving husband of Linda J Warburton, the cherished father of Karen (Byron) and Keith.  Bob was predeceased by his parents, Robert William and Edna May Warburton.  He was a beloved elder Brother to Al (Chris) and Ray (Deb).  Much loved Brother-in-law to Lana and Shelley (Bob).  Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews:  Tryshia (Jake), Michael, Pierce, Nadia (Felix), Neil (Erin), and Jen (Alex).  Great Uncle to Jake Jr. (Jordanna), Sam (Robyn), Dave and Dan.  Forever friend of Brian and Dorothy.  Honourary Second Father to Anthony (Rhonda), Honourary Great Uncle to Brooke and Honourary Uncle to Trina (Graham).

Bob was a member of the first graduating class of Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario.  In his career at the Communications Research Centre Bob was an accomplished Electronics Technologist.  He maintained and programmed a vast assortment of mini computers and peripheral equipment.  During the late 70's and 80's he was a key contributor to the Telidon Project, a national videotex/teletext project.  He was promoted to Manager of an IT group, leading a project in computer networking throughout the mid 90's.  He was admired and respected by all who worked for him and with him.  As a key contributor to the Telidon Project, he received a Canada Medal.  He also received an award acknowledging his 35 years of service to the Canadian Government signed by Jean Chrétien following his retirement in 2001.

Bob, "Gadget Man" as he came to be known, was a man of wit and warmth, a problem solver extraordinaire, a fixer of all things and an original upcycler.  Throughout life, he had many hobbies, interests, and pursuits.  He was a world traveller, and road tripper and Trekker.  He was a lifetime curler, a day one Ottawa Senators fan, a music buff, a family camper and cottager, and a Sci-fi enthusiast.  He loved to cook and BBQ.  He had a passion for building and operating radio-controlled boats and submarines.

Special thanks to Nancy and Sharon for their ongoing support and guidance.  Heartfelt gratitude to U of O Heart Institute doctors Dr. Lau, Dr. Aydin, Dr. Burwash, and Dr. Nelson.  Deep thanks to Bob's nurses on the third floor and in Intensive Care.
