Obituary of Peter Wasylak

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Peter Paul Wasylak, who left us peacefully on May 17, 2025, at the age of 90.

Peter was predeceased by his wife Betty, his parents Mike and Minnie Wasylak, his brothers John Wasylak (Anne), Walter Wasylak (Jessie) and his parents-in-law, George and Genevieve Ebbesen.  He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children, Debra Rowan (Ken), Terry Wasylak (Tracy) and Wanda Thompson (Perry) and his loving grandchildren, Stosh (Megan), Liam (Jessica, Peydon, Blakely), Jonah (Taylor), Quinn, Kira, Marina (Félix) and Samantha. Lovingly remembered by his siblings Mary (Stan) Morash, Rose (Ken) Robertson and his Aunt Jane (late Emile), as well as by many brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins. nieces and nephews.

Peter's life was one of quiet strength, endless curiosity, and unwavering devotion to his family. Born in Saskatchewan, he later moved to Calgary, Alberta, where he attended college and met the love of his life, Betty. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising their children while embarking on adventures that took them across Canada. Everywhere they went, Peter left behind warm memories, strong friendships, and the comforting sound of laughter.

Peter dedicated over 40 years of his life to a career in accounting, working with multinational companies across Canada.  He brought diligence, integrity, and a touch of wit to every meeting and relationship he entered. His colleagues respected him not only for his professionalism but for the kindness and humour he never left at the door. Peter finished his career as a Controller with Nestlé Enterprises Limited.

Outside of work, Peter found joy in simple pleasures; he was an avid golfer, a dedicated curler, a passionate gardener and he loved watching the Toronto Blue Jays. But above all, his greatest joy was being with his family. Whether cheering from the sidelines at a game or quietly fixing something around the house, sometimes with just a roll of duct tape and a dad joke, Peter's presence was a constant source of love and support.

He was deeply involved in his community, particularly at the local curling club where his leadership and commitment helped shape a strong, welcoming space for all.

To know Peter was to know laughter, kindness, and a man who could always be counted upon to lend a hand or fix anything. As his family fondly remembers:

“Dad: The man, the myth, the legend… who somehow fixes everything with an old umbrella and a dad joke poking fun at himself.”

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, a donation in his memory can be made to the Ottawa Heart Institute.
