Obituary of Brian Gilman

Brian Percival Gilman passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by the love of his family. Brian was predeceased by his beloved wife, Fran Gilman (née Bennett), with whom he shared many cherished years. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Heather Foy (Kevin) and Carol Viau (Glen); his treasured grandchildren, Madelyn Foy and Annabelle Colvin Viau; and his devoted companion, Judith Rygiel.

Born and raised in Ottawa, Brian was well-connected in the community and played an important role alongside his brother Peter in the family businesses—Ketchum Manufacturing and Komtech Plastics.  He loved cottage weekends and was known for his dedication to family, keen curiosity and storytelling. His memory will live on in every afternoon swim, evening sundowner with friends, and family dinner on the deck.

In keeping with Brian’s request, the family invites those who knew him to a Celebration of Life that will be held at the Pinecrest Reception Centre, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa on Monday, July 28, 2025 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Words of remembrance at 2:00pm.  For those wishing, memorial donations to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation for Dr. Sabloff’s Leukemia Research would be greatly appreciated by the family.
