Nelson Guertin

Obituary of Nelson Guertin

Nelson Guertin passed away peacefully at The Ottawa Hospital on Friday August 8, at the age of 61.

He courageously fought health-related issues, one after the other, over the last five years with determination, however, his last health challenge was insurmountable.

Nelson was born in North Bay in 1964, and grew up there and in Elliot Lake, Ontario. He worked across the country in his youth and settled in Ottawa, where he worked for many years as a talented carpenter and raised a family.

He is lovingly remembered by his partner of more than 30 years, Karen Hlady and by his sons Seth Guertin and Callum Guertin as a cherished husband and father. He will be dearly missed by his mother Pauline Guertin. He is also survived by a brother, sisters and in-laws.

Nelson will be re-united with his dear daughter Deavyne Angelique Guertin, who passed away in March 2024. He was also predeceased by his father Donald Guertin and his grandparents.

Nelson loved to recount funny stories about his life and experiences. He enjoyed listening to his favourite music - the louder the better! He possessed a wonderful sense of humour, even as he faced many health struggles later in life, and he never waivered in his support of the Montreal Canadians. His family was especially important to him.

If desired, memorial donations can be made to the Brain Canada Foundation to support research in acquired brain injuries and epilepsy.
