Obituary of James Shurtliff

Peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, Ottawa, on Monday, August 18, 2025, in his 90th year. Beloved husband of 63 years to the late Elaine Shurtliff. Loving father of Douglas (Shelley), Michael, and Thomas (Nadeem). Proud grandfather of four, and great-grandfather of eight. Predeceased by his parents Myles and Frances, brothers Myles and Ron, and sister Marg.

Jim enjoyed a long career as a technician with Bell Canada, followed by an even longer retirement filled with lawn bowling, duplicate bridge, and an endless supply of jokes—most of which he found funnier than anyone else.

He will also be remembered by his good friend Bev, whose daily calls brightened his days.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the MAID service for allowing Jim to pass on his own terms, and to his favorite nurse, Thi, for her compassionate care in his final days, as well as the entire ACE section of the QC hospital. Private family services will be held.
