Obituary of Velma J. LeBlanc-Trudeau
It is with deep sadness and immense love that we announce the peaceful passing of Velma Jeanne (LeBlanc) Trudeau of Gatineau, Québec, on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the age of 78 years young. She was surrounded by her immediate family in her final days just as she had surrounded them with love and strength throughout her life.
Velma, known affectionately as Aunty Velma, Mom, and Mom-Mom, was a woman of unwavering dedication, boundless generosity, and quiet but with fierce determination. Independent, hardworking, and deeply principled, she lived with a strong sense of purpose and love for those closest to her.
She had little patience for nonsense and no tolerance for injustice but an open heart for anyone in need. Velma was always ready to lend a hand, open her home, or speak her mind when it mattered most. She led with action, not words, and her strength was matched only by her compassion.
Born in Campbellton, New Brunswick, and raised in Terrace Bay, Ontario, Velma played sports and music from a young age, playing piano and organ at church, and was always the first to volunteer when something needed doing. She carried that same spirit into adulthood, where she raised four children while working full-time and serving on boards and committees to support their activities.
Velma spent over 40 years as a federal public servant, working her way into management in pay and benefits, a role she took seriously and executed with integrity and diligence. She approached her work like everything else in life: with excellence, and efficiency.
In her later years, Velma continued to give of herself through volunteering, notably at the soup kitchen, and found joy in singing with local choirs, sewing, and knitting. Travel was one of her greatest pleasures, especially with her beloved husband Dan, and nothing made her happier than sharing those adventures with her children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Daniel George Trudeau, her son Eugene Daniel Trudeau, her brother John LeBlanc, and her parents Arthur and Stella (Plourde) LeBlanc.
Velma is survived by her daughter Shannon (Trudeau) Haugen and her children Caleb, Anna, and Sarah Haugen; her son Cory Trudeau (wife, Natalie Champagne); and her daughter Kristen Trudeau (husband, Stéphane Mayer) and their children Mikka, Nikola, Sasha Bélanger, and Léa-Rose, Christopher, Bianca, Alexandre, and Angélie Mayer.
She is also survived by her sisters Germaine (McMillan) and Marielle (Brazeau); brothers Reginal, Roger, Gilles, Michael, and Alvin LeBlanc; and many beloved sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
