We learned this sad news on what would have been Pat’s 80th birthday.
We will remember our Trade / CV / CS & HQ colleague
Pat was a 35 year employee of the Customs and Revenue Canada and retired in 2000. He was always the fellow in our Division who had the leading edge on computer hardware and software and electronics. If it was new on the market, he seemed he had it.
He and my husband Brian worked on many projects and much to his delight Pat had to train me on a program called PK-Zip. Let’s just say it was the old way of bundling great amounts of info to easily transfer it or store it… not my forte. God bless him for his patience. We ended up inviting him home for a Sunday meal to beg forgiveness for my frustrations. He graciously accepted.
It’s true he loved animals. He took in a wee stray that came to his door one cold and bleek night. Rather than take it to the Humane Society, within 24 hours the wee puss, which he aptly named “Cat” , was ruling the house and had Pat wrapped around its paw. We suspect Pat bought out the nearest pet store to comfort his new charge. It was meant to be.
