Obituary of Valerie May Burton (nee Rathwell)

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Valerie May Burton at the age of 86.

She is survived by the love of her life, of 47 years, James (Jim) Burton. They enjoyed a  great life together on the Madawaska River. 

Valerie was a devoted and loving mother to Kim Giffin, Bob Giffin (Ruth), Meredi Rymes (Meindle) and James Burton (Ginnette). She was a cherished Grandi to Sam, Malori, Rylee, Taylor, Wesley, Adam, Kenny, Robbie, and Kendra.  Loving Great-Grandi to Everly, Brady, Brooks, Charley, Avery, Alice, Lucy and Oskar. They were her pride and joy. 

Born to Bill and Lillian (Kelso) Rathwell of Ottawa (both predeceased). Val will be missed by her siblings Shirley (late Gary) Dillabough, Joan (Pat) McGrath, and (late) Ronnie (Betty) Rathwell. 

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025 in Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Road. A reception will follow. Inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Val's memory to The Aphasia Centre of Ottawa, would be greatly appreciated.
