Obituary of Ruby Joan Butterworth

Ruby Joan Butterworth (nee Corbett) passed away peacefully at her home in Bells Corners, Ottawa, on October 2, 2025, at the age of 88.

Born in Toronto to Delmar and Rachel Corbett, Joan was a loving and creative woman who built a life around  her family. She maintained a welcoming home and created beautiful gardens.  Joan was resilient. She returned to school while raising her two youngest children and continued to work hard and cook for her family, even as macular degeneration diminished her sight.

Joan's greatest joy came from time spent with her family and friends, celebrating, chatting or playing games. She had a great sense of humour and an appreciation for a good joke. She will be deeply missed by her many friends and family.

She was predeceased by her beloved son, Joseph Butterworth. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Jeff, Jennifer, Jeanette, and Jerry; her grandchildren Christa, Julian, Stephanie, Genevieve, and Michelle; and her great-grandchildren Andrew, Connor, Lacey, Sadie, and Sylas.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at the  Bells Corners United Church, 3955 Old Richmond Road, Ottawa in the Shalom Room.
