Obituary of Francesco Simioni

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Francesco Simioni on October 19, 2025, in his 88th year. Francesco was the beloved husband of the late Sidonia, a devoted father to Katharina (Peter Korossy), and a proud and loving Nonno to Isabella. He was the cherished brother of the late Lino (the late Rachel), the late Romano (Patricia), the late Marino (the late Ana Maria), and Luigina (Timothy Liuzzo). Francesco will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by his nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

After immigrating to Canada from Italy in 1956, Francesco built a life rooted in hard work and passion, finding his calling as a baker. In his mid-40s, following the first of many heart surgeries, he discovered a love for running. He became a regular participant in the National Capital 10K Race, continuing yearly until his doctors advised him to slow down. He did just that—embracing walking with the same dedication, covering 10 kilometers daily and forming lasting friendships along the way.

Francesco had a zest for life. He loved Formula 1, opera, gardening, cooking, and savoring good wine. He was especially proud of perfecting his recipe for panettone—a true labor of love.

Francesco was an incredible, resilient, and inspiring man whose presence left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the exceptional team of doctors at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute for over 44 years of outstanding care. We are also deeply grateful to the dedicated staff at Westpointe Retirement Living for their kindness, compassion, and unwavering support.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Road. Inurnment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Francesco Simioni may be made to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
