Obituary of Dorothy “Dossé” Eleanore Field (nee Cleary)

Dorothy “Dossé” Eleanore Field (nee Cleary) left us peacefully on October 14, 2025 in Sudbury with her son and daughters-in-law at her side.

Beloved wife of Gordon Conway Field (predeceased).  Loving Mum of Colin (Melissa) and Greg (predeceased) (Dianne).  Loving Gogie of Katrina (Carmelo), Shannon (Michael), and David (Shanyn).  Loving Great-Gogie of Agostino, Theodore, Evelyn, Emma, and Bryson.  Dear daughter of Peggy (nee Robertson) and Willard Cleary (both predeceased).  Loving sister of Niki Plumstead (Bill) (both predeceased), and sister-in-law of Alvin Field (Beryl) (both predeceased).  Dear Aunt of Bryan Plumstead (Suzan), Peggy McLeod (Gary), David Plumstead (Audrey); and Marlene Hudson (Drummond) and Grant Field (Elizabeth).  Aunt Dossé leaves behind many great and great-great nieces and nephews. 

Dossé was proud of being a Nurse (Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal, 1953), and of her involvement with Meals on Wheels in Sudbury.

Dossé’s Joie de Vivre endeared her to many friends she met over her lifetime.  She initiated Cleary family reunions and enjoyed them for over 50 years.  She was an avid outdoors woman with her family, camping, fishing on Manitoulin Island and across Canada.  She was an enthusiastic sports fan, and billeted Sudbury Wolves hockey players for many years. During Dossé’s last 11 years at Meadowbrook Retirement Home she made many friends and enjoyed lovely times with residents and staff alike.

Following Dossé’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A private family service will be held at Pinecrest Cemetery in Ottawa at 11:45am Saturday, November 8, 2025. 

A celebration in memory of Dossé will be held 2:30-3:30pm on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Meadowbrook Retirement Home, Lively. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Northern Ontario School of Medicine, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Her story is woven into ours forever.
