My sincere and heartfelt condolences, especially to Beth, Patrick, Colleen and Michael, also to Ted and the entire family, both close and extended – I know when Ruth married into a Greek family, she acquired a *large* family! Beth and I became friends when we were two years old. So she and her family have been part of the setting of my life for almost as long as I can remember. My memories of Ruth are many, but grade 13 gatherings after school in her immaculate kitchen, the perpetual pot of coffee on the stove, all of us smoking then, and the long chats the three of us had there. I can picture her there and her remarkable eyes that would flash or light up or look coyly at you. And I will remember her there, laughing at some crazy story one of us was telling. There is nothing like the loss of your mother, but love lives on, as do memories. Cherish them and share them. My heart is with you.

When Michael introduced us to Ruth, we could see that she was the love of his life, and from that time on, she became an important part of our life too. My "adopted brother" had found the perfect match, and they had a marriage that we are sure was envied by many. As time went on, our physical separation which had changed from Toronto to Ottawa mean that we no longer had the memorable weekend visits, but we actively kept in touch. As Ted and Beth arrived we could see the result of their parents' love and guidance. This special relationship of their family with the Padfields has lasted well over half a century. We remember Ruth as a great friend, a delightful companion, a kind and excellent hostess, and our "adopted sister-in-law".
