Maria Dirschl

Obituary of Maria Dirschl

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce that Maria Dirschl (née Neumeier) died at home with her children and family by her side, on August 2nd, 2021.

Maria was born in Raitenhaslach, Bavaria, Germany to Lorenz Neumeier and Maria Heilig on April 28th, 1938, the oldest of three children. From an early age she learned the values of responsibility, compassion, generosity and hard work, which were prevalent throughout her life. At 21, Maria emigrated to Canada where she married Herman and started her own family in Saskatoon, and later moved to Ottawa where she lived the majority of her life. She was devoted to her children and her grandchildren, instilling in them her values and kindness.

Strong, enduring relationships and friendships were core to Maria's life. She spent immeasurable time writing cards and letters, never missing a special occasion of any of her family and life-long friends.

Maria loved travelling and meeting new people. She embraced different cultures, enjoyed exploring new and exciting locations, and was a big supporter of local artists and craftspeople. At various times she lived overseas with her family in Tanzania and Kenya, and with her husband in Indonesia.

Maria was instrumental in acquiring and finishing the family cottage, where many happy years were enjoyed by family and friends.

Maria enjoyed sewing, knitting and many other crafts. She was always willing to try her hand at something new. Maria was also an excellent baker and her grandchildren loved to spend time in the kitchen with their Oma. She loved plants of all kinds, and greatly enjoyed tending to her house plants and flower gardens.

Maria is survived by Herman, her husband of over 60 years. She will be terribly missed by her entire family; her children, Harold (Kim), Ken (Leanne), and Michelle (Patrick), and grandchildren, Ben, Sam, Emma and Heather. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Katie.
