Obituary of Shaptarshi Bhowmik

Shaptarshi Bhowmik, Aninda, the elder son of Suparna Sarker and Jayanta Bhowmik, passed away on August 24th, 2021 in a tragic drowning accident at Lac Simon, Quebec while on a family vacation trip with his family and friends. He was born on August 11th, 2001 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He attended St. Joseph High School in Ottawa and was in the third year of the Finance programme at the Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada.

In his short life, Shaptarshi touched many hearts with his care, compassion and kind-heartedness.  He was not only the loving son of his parents but was also an umbrella of care and affection for his younger brother Shashwata and his cousins Shounak and Sohaum who live in very close proximity to his home in Barrhaven, Ottawa. Shaptarshi was an excellent soccer player and during his high-school years, he played regularly in the competitive league for the Ottawa South United Soccer Club. His closest friends Mathew and Tanus would often describe him as the brightest kid in the class with a joyful soul.

Shaptarshi is survived by his parents Suparna and Jayanta and his brother Shashwata, his cousins Oishi, Raj, Ribhu, Shounak and Sohaum and his uncles and aunts Prashanta, Aparna, Subrata, Gopal, Sumana and Radha. He also leaves his paternal and maternal grandparents Induprobha Bhowmik and Aparna Sarker. He is also survived by his closest friends Mathew and Tanus. Last but not the least, he leaves behind his loving dog Mira, a bundle of joy, for his parents, family and friends to cherish.

A Small Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 30th from 10 am to 12 pm EST (8 – 10 pm in Bangladesh and 7:30 – 9:30 pm in India) at the Pinecrest Funeral Home at 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, ON. Due to the Pandemic, only a small group of family and friends can attend the funeral.

Shaptarshi was known for his love for children. He would often spend hours with his little cousins: making cookies, playing games or watching movies. Mother nature took him away before he could fulfil his dreams or do all the cherished things in life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the Children Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Ottawa, Canada.
