Dear Heather, Greg,Neil and Joanne, I met Ron when he and Bernie carpooled toRideau high school. Then I met Heather and we,as couples, became close friends. We travelled to PEI, had Friday night chicken dinners and many adventures at White Lake. We met Neil in PEI, kept in touch with Greg, Sonja and Kianna in our neighborhood, celebrated Joanne’s achievements and generally, felt part of the family. Life’s different challenges for each of us took us on different paths. Good memories remain and I send condolences to you and the family members we haven’t met. Ron will be missed Margaret Becker

To Mr. Backs' Family; I was one of Mr. Backs' students way back in 1964. I had the habit of tilting back on my stool in the science lab room and putting my feet up on the desk top. He was not impressed! However, I did occasionally persist...until after a parent teacher interview night. As my folks sat down for a 'chat', Mr. Backs put his feet up on his desk and proceeded to chat away. My dad (Army Colonel) sat in awe of this strange and somewhat inappropriate mannerism by Mr. Backs seated in front of him. That night, following the school interview, my dad conducted his own 'interview'... with me. I can assure Mr. Back's family that the 4 legs of my stool remained fully in contact with the floor from the next day on. It seems that I learned more than science in his class that year. Oh, and by the way, he was a great teacher, one of a few great teachers I had at Rideau High. It was nice to see that he had a long and rewarding life. Terry Payan Lieutenant-Colonel (Ret'd)

Heather and family: I am so sorry to hear about Ron's passing. I have many fond memories of our time together in the Derek Robertson Jazz Band in the late 1980s. We took many out-of-town trips, and I benefited from Ron and Heather's kindness and generosity on many occasions - including my first trip to New York. You are in my thoughts. - Peter Turner
