Obituary of Danny "Dave" Cooke

Danny "Dave" Cooke died unexpectedly in Ottawa on November 23, 2021, at the age of 46.

Dave is survived by his father, Michel Cooke of Trois Rivieres, QC; his beloved partner Katie Shaver; children, Jaydan and Brianna Cooke; sister, Nancy Cooke (Robert Laganière) of Champlain, QC; and the mother of his children, Jennifer Cooke (nee Vanamburg). He is preceded in death by his mother, Jeannine Deschamps of St-Luc-de-Vincennes, QC. Dave also leaves his Godson Joey Laganière, his nephews Alex and Noah Laganière and niece Maude Laganière, his Godfather Jean-Claude Deschamps. Dave will also be lovingly remembered by all members of the Shaver family, and the Vanamburg family, especially by Beverly, Stuart, Reese, Ryder, Jaidyn and Paige; his uncles, aunts, cousins and all of his dear friends and colleagues.

Dave was born on December 15, 1974, in Cap-de-la-Madeleine, QC. After completing his auto-mechanic apprenticeship, Dave joined the Canadian Armed Forces in March of 1993 with the 12th Régiment blindé du Canada as a Radio Operator. Once posted at CFB Kingston in 1995, Dave worked as a Signals Operator. During this time, Dave and Jennifer welcomed two beautiful children into the world, and Dave set about teaching them to pursue their passions and goals, and always strive to set the bar high. His children remember him as a strong willed, driven, supportive, selfless, goofy, father that managed to always light up any room he entered.

In 2007, Dave moved to Ottawa and joined the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command, before releasing in 2014 to pursue a career as an accomplished IT Manager for the Federal Government of Canada. Dave was a generous, daring, and adventurous guy who loved the outdoors, fast cars, good music, and had a passion for health and fitness. In years past, he was an active and dedicated volunteer firefighter for Fire and Rescue NSW 082 Richmond, in Richmond, ON. Dave also did many tours with the UN and the Canadian Army including Africa, Bosnia, Germany, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Dave gave in death, as he gave in life. As he had always advocated, his final act was to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation. To honour Dave’s memory, his loved ones would encourage everyone who is able, to consider making this selfless choice and please register today to become an organ donor.

A private family service is scheduled for Saturday December 4th, 2021 with an open reception to follow from 2:00pm – 6:00pm at the West Carleton Amateur Sports Club (3832 Carp Rd. Carp ON) to celebrate Dave's life. Proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test required.

In lieu of flowers, please consider sending donations to The University of Ottawa Heart Institute or VETS Canada. The family would like to thank caregivers, ICU staff, and the Trillium Gift of Life Foundation at The Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus, for their efforts, care, dedication, and compassion.
