My condolences to Mr. Bonderski's family.
I was visiting Ottawa and drove through our old neighbourhood, googled and this obituary popped up. I'm so sorry and wish we had kept in touch.

"Mr. Recruiter!"
So aptly named; for LCol Bonderski indeed was a mentor to me in my first posting as a relatively new army lieutenant 'recruiting officer' at the CF Recruiting Detachment in Bathurst, NB. Of course, I did not call him "Mr. Recruiter". I called him "Sir".
He paid us a visit sometime early during my time there in 1971-74 and I remember it well. I do not believe our detachment had ever been visited by a Director of Recruiting. So when LCol Bonderski visited, it was a big deal for us.
Clearly he made an impression on me and I remember him well. I even had occasion to have a telephone conversation sometime later seeking his input. Lieutenants did not normally telephone lieutenant-colonels!
LCol Bonderski set a high standard, lived up to it and shared his vision on how best to be an effective recruiter -by encouraging me to promote the merits of the student applicants remaining in school - and then join the CF.
We met again in 1986. He was by then a civy working in the NDHQ Audit Division and I joined the Division as a newly promoted lieutenant-colonel. I echo the comments posted earlier here by Mr. Peter Lutfy. Ever the military officer, now in retirement, Mr. Bonderski exemplified what it means to be an officer and a gentleman.
To his family - know that 'the colonel' made a difference and that he left with me some fine memories.

I worked with Ed at National Defence in the 1980s in the audit group. He was 30 years older than me and was always providing work and life advice, be it financial, political, or in other aspects of life.. He enouraged me to buy bank stocks and he was certainly right about that. He was a true gentlemen and a class act. My only regret was not keeping in touch with him.

Uncle Ed was such an important part of our childhood, growing up with Steve, Shawn and Gary, my brothers and sister, my Mom and Dad, Lorna and Joe DeSante. We loved visiting Ed and Sue in Ottawa and were always welcomed with open arms. Uncle even gave me my first cookbook, The Joy of Cooking, at 16 years old up in Sturgeon. We will miss Ed dearly but will celebrate with his many family and friends his well-lived and long, wonderful life. Love Carrie, Tim, Jeremy, James, Emily
