Dear Greg and family, I am so sorry to hear of Cally's passing. I knew Cally in Lively, Ontario and we shared the same teachers and classroom together for our elementary years. In later years we drove from Lively to Cambrian College together and at that time I could see what a special person she would become. I will always remember our experience together during a tornado in 1970 when we were both buried in a collapsed building and went on to share a few days together in hospital. I am so sorry for your loss but know that she has left you wonderful memories, inspiration and a loving family - I wish you all the best.

Cally loved Christmas.
For weeks before, our house was redolent with the fragrance of her baking - cookies of all types, tarts, cinnamon buns, Nanaimo bars, Finn bun, Christmas (fruit) cakes, lemon squares… to name a few… all homemade, all so delicious.
Christmas morning breakfast was special - salmon strata… fresh cinnamon buns… quiche…always varied, always wonderful.
She decorated the house with wreaths, candles everywhere, heirloom decorations, whimsical elves, twinkling lights, green boughs and ribbons. Everything looked magical.
The always-natural tree was first set up and decorated with lights (“it needs more lights” she’d often say, and we’d laugh - and add more lights). Then decorations - some very old, some from family, some homemade, some from all our years together, some new - were placed every where natural spaces allowed - by all of us, young and old - while Christmas music played in the background.
She loved the music - choral music, popular music, nostalgic music, Christmas carols - the music of Christmas was everywhere in our home, bringing joy to all of us.
She loved our big family Christmastime gathering for days of cooking, feasting, conversation, laughter, games, songs, and so much love. She loved giving presents - the selecting, wrapping, the joy on everyone’s faces. She knew how special it is for children, and made sure that every child - of any age - felt the magic that she brought to our Christmastime.
Cally, we all really felt that magic, that spirit, and the love that you brought to us all at Christmas, and all throughout the year. We so love you, we so miss you, and we wish you comfort, and joy, and peace forever.

Cally was a rare gardener, happiest working with the soil. Where we saw earth, she envisioned and created oases of living, landscaped, textured beauty - for all creatures to enjoy. Plants, specially chosen for their environment, were planted with careful attention to placement, height, foliage and flowers, and, timed to flower throughout the seasons, the results were breathtaking.
Not only expert with the beauty of plants, she was dedicated for decades to growing vegetables, fruits, and herbs for her family. Always experimenting with new seeds, she would start plants indoors in winter, ready for spring planting, then tending to maturity (which sounds easy, but is a lot of work). Her countless successes were harvested year after year, eaten fresh, cooked, or preserved for later feasts. No surprise that she was also an excellent cook!

I was very saddened to hear of Cally"s passing. My deepest sympathy to the family. We hired Cally to work with us in our gardening business, Digging In Garden Services. I was very pleased that Cally took it over. She was a wonderful person and a great worker. We shared lots of fun (and not so fun) times together planning and planting beautiful gardens.

I was very, very lucky to have know Cally and to have experienced her kindness, intelligence, good heart, and ability to laugh and find happiness while never losing sight of her strong ethical sense. The wonderful, loving family she created is a testament to how special she was.

Greg,Sarah and Alexis,
I was so saddened to hear of Cally’s passing. She was one of our first neighbours from the Garland /Lowry intersection and we enjoyed many discussions when Sarah and Simone were at Devonshire together. In later years, we would meet by chance on Wellington Street and chat about things as we were walking .
I saw her last this summer -she had serious health challenges but appeared to be coping with her new circumstances.
She had a beautiful smile and a great sense of humour. She will leave you with lovely memories.
Rene and I are thinking of you all.

To Greg, Sarah, and Alexi,
I cannot begin to express how sad we are to hear of Cally’s passing.Although we did not remain constantly in touch we were “old friends” who always had something to talk about from the past. Our
times at West End were special. She was there for me during difficult days and she was always there for the children and their families.
Cally was a person ahead of the times. She was never afraid to speak up for what was right.
Sarah and Alexis, Cally adored you both. She was always so very proud of you.
Every time you look at your two beautiful grandchildren, Greg I am certain you will see Cally smiling at you.
Our hearts go out to all of you.
