Obituary of Rita Maria Reinert (Metzler)

Our dear mom, Rita Maria Reinert (Metzler) left us to join her beloved husband Hermann Eugen Reinert (1924-2018) on Sunday, January 22, 2023.

Mom was born in Germany on June 30, 1931 and was barely 19 when she met the love of her life and was persuaded to follow him within 6 months, halfway around the world to a place where they didn't speak the language and only had $50 to their names.

She was the rock which provided the foundation for a wonderful and loving family. A kind and gentle soul, her children, Esther (Steven), Kathy (Geoff) and Gina (Dan) learned from her example how to be loving and supportive parents to their own children, Brady (Jiwon), Matthew, Katie, Allie (John), Dakota (Kaylea).

Her great grandchildren Sadie, Oliver, Hanna, Evan and Finley will miss their beloved OmaOma very much. She loved and cuddled them with the fullness of her heart.

Mom lived a life full of dramatic challenges and beautiful experiences. Surviving the impoverished childhood war years then working in building a family business in Ottawa taught her to cherish her well deserved retirement years of travel with Dad. They traveled far and wide in their RV, loved to golf and ski and most of all enjoyed summers at the cottage.

She leaves behind two sisters and dear friends, Irmgard (late, Willy) and Gertrude (Herbert). She was predeceased by her brother Addie (Gisela) and sister Rosel.

Our sincere thanks and gratitude go to the loving caregivers who helped make her last years comfortable and took such good care of her, Remy, Girlie, Fe, Gigi, Jojo, Josie, and Christine.  We are also eternally grateful to Dr. Lisa Cross and the wonderful team at Bayshore Champlain Palliative Care who provided such loving care for our Mom.

There will not be a formal service as per Mom's request, but a close family gathering in the spring to celebrate her reunion with Dad and say goodbye. If friends so desire memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
