Dear Tanuja and Soniya,
Deepest condolences for the passing of your Mom. We remember her fondly. Her energy and her dedication to the community were greatly appreciated. She was particularly instrumental in the Marathi school in which my daughter took part when she was young. The importance of keeping our language, culture and customs alive were so important to her and thanks to her, she shared that with the community. May your many memories of her help you both during this more difficult time.

Kunda was a family friend whom I met when I came to Canada in 1997. More than family friend she was like an older sister (tai) and mentor for me. I worked closely with Kunda tai because of Marathi language school. Marathi school was her brain child and she was very passionate about starting this school. She acted as a community advisor and made sure that all the formalities are completed. IN the beginning, she helped us with lesson plans and taught us how to attract and retain kids. Both Kunda and Dilip were present at every Marathi school function and encouraged kids. Kunda tai also wrote and directed plays for Marathi school kids and made sure that every kid has a role to play in it. Marathi school was started in 2003 and it has been running for last 20 year. Credit goes to Kunda tai. She had a vibrant personality, a witty sense of humour, and a positive outlook. There was so much to learn form her. Marathi community was fortunate to have Kunda tai. We will miss her dearly.

We met Kunda Mavashi in 2006 for the first time at Vrishlata’s Dohale function arranged by Ottawa Marathi community. Since then we are closely associated with her and Dilip kaka. She was always an inspiration to us due to her dedication and love to Marathi community and our family. Her contribution and support to the Marathi Shala (School) in Ottawa is tremendous and she was always participating in the annual functions in school as well Marathi community encouraging us and children to learn Marathi culture.

I never met Kunda but experienced her spirit via Soniya, a colleague who I have worked with on global initiatives. A warm Jamaican greeting to the entire family and condolences.

Kunda Auntie was the heart and soul of the Marathi community. It is thanks to her that so many of us were exposed to Marathi language, culture and arts, she has left behind an enormous legacy. She was always so kind and welcoming and gave so much to the people around her, we are all better for having had her in our lives.

All my young life, I was craving to take part in a play. Kundatai gave me my first break in the play “Vitthal to Ala Ala”. It was a small role but it mushroomed into other roles in other plays. Eventually, I assembled a team of excellent local artists and staged the grand play “Ashrunchi Zaali Fule” in Ottawa. I played the part of Lalya. It was a tremendous success. All due to Kundatai. She always tried to help others. My pranam to her.
