Obituary of Gordon Kenneth Godwin
On June 23, 2023, Gordon (Gord) Kenneth Godwin passed away surrounded by his loving family and friends at the age of 68. He was the son of the late Donald Godwin and Evelyn Fraser (nee Dewhirst) and stepson to the late Jack Fraser. He was a loving husband of 35 years to the late Cheryl Godwin (nee Pender), the proud father to Erika (Gary) and Kyle (Nicole) and Grampa to his cherished granddaughter Hayley with two more on the way. Gord recently discovered his love of wildlife photography in the last couple of years, how he met his partner Darla Galley and her granddaughter Sadie. Gord was the beloved brother to Betty McVeigh (Cecil), the late Ted (the late Diane), Howie (Linda), Ray and a brother-in-law to Donna Macadam (Al) and Gary Pender (Debbie). He was a beloved uncle and great-uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Gord will also be missed by his hound dog, Ollie.
Gord spent his life loving, watching and playing sports. He was a longtime and particularly beloved member of both Carleton Golf and Yacht and Carleton Heights Curling Club. Gord also worked at the Canadian Bank Note Company for 30+ years.
He met Cheryl at an Ottawa 67s game and spent most of his free time watching hockey, football, golf and baseball. Gord and Cheryl loved travelling to Florida to watch baseball Spring Training, to Baltimore to watch the Ravens, and to Philadelphia to cheer on the Phillies. Gord was a lifelong supporter of Ottawa’s professional sports teams. Since the return of Ottawa’s CFL team, he was a RedBlacks season ticket holder and loved watching Senators games with his kids and extended family.
