Obituary of William Roy (Bud) Coleman
It is with broken hearts the family announce the peaceful passing of Roy (Bud) in his 96th year following a wonderful and fulfilling life as son of Don and Kathleen and brother to Louise and Harold (all deceased).
A loving husband to Doreen (Bubs) for 71 years, often seen holding hands, sneaking a kiss or having a dance right up to the very last week of his life. Most cherished Dad and Grampies to 18: Don (Lynn) and family Shelly (Robin) Braydon, Laken; Patti and family Brittanie (Ryan) Quinn, William and Emily (Matt), Rowan; Jeff (Stacey) and family Andy and Nick. Family was everything to Bud (closely followed by Frank Sinatra, cocktail hour, the Senators, Redblacks and his beloved Lake Muskoka cottage).
Roy was born and raised in Toronto. He met his “sweetheart” at their childhood cottages on Kahshe Lake where they danced, swam and developed many deep cottage friendships. Bubs and Bud married in 1952. His successful career at Bell took the family to Hamilton, Toronto, Montreal and eventually Ottawa where he spent the last 60 years raising his family, playing football and bridge with friends, travelling the world, reciting poetry and music lyrics at every chance, and volunteering for various organizations - Bel Air minor hockey and politics being two of his favourites.
Forging their own cottage dreams, Bud bought his beloved Lake Muskoka property in 1970 where family and friends still congregate to enjoy all that cottage life offers. This love of lake-life has transcended deeply to all the kids and grandkids. We are thankful.
We will miss the patriarch of our family. We are sad. Yet, we are so very very appreciative for all that he has given and taught us. Through this, we will always carry a piece of him with us as we continue on.
Thank you to the palliative team at the QCH, Dr B Johnson and the many relatives and good friends who supported our family, especially mom, during the last month.
