With sadness we announce the passing of our father, Ivan Lotman on Tuesday,  July 18, 2023.  Widowed in 2022 after 68 years of marriage to Lovell Tulloch, Ivan is survived by his son Richard (Ida), his daughter Marianne (Ibrahim), and his son Anthony. Ivan was a loving grandfather to Kristal, Erica, Amber, John, Sabrina, Rachael, Zachary and Jenna. He was predeceased by his siblings Angelo Luciani, Ana Cernatic, Anton Lutman, and Ivana Lutman. He is survived by his niece Rita Santoro, Darja Gulin, Robert Gulin, Albert Gulin as well as several nieces and nephews in Canada and in Slovenia.

Ivan, or “Nino” as he was called by family, was born in Gorizia, Italy on June 20, 1932. He went to Italian schools, trained to be a bricklayer and then at the age of 17, escaped with a friend from what was communist Slovenia, Yugoslavia.  Ivan spent two years in a refugee camp in Naples where had the opportunity to emigrate to Canada.  In 1951, he immigrated to Canada where he moved to Rouyn-Noranda to work in the gold mines.  He met his future wife Lovell on a trip to Sudbury whom he married in 1953.  Ivan worked for INCO at Copper Cliff and at one point was on a winning First Aid team at INCO. Ivan was also  a volunteer fireman for many years in Minnow Lake and in 1966, the family moved to Burlington, Ontario. He worked for 25 years with Inglis Manufacturing and also built many fireplaces part-time in the Burlington / Hamilton area. Ivan was also a polyglot who spoke six different languages. In retirement, Ivan and Lovell travelled extensively to Cuba, Florida, Italy, Slovenia, across Canada and the U.S.A amongst other places.

Ivan celebrated his 91st birthday in June 2023 an achievement of which he was very proud as he was the longest living person in his family.
