James Borst

Obituary of James Borst

Passed away peacefully on the Palliative Care floor at Saint Vincent Hospital in Ottawa in his 82nd year on January 4th.

Jim (The Big Guy, Grandpa Jimmy) is survived by his children, Chantal (Tim Kirkconnell) and Shane (Annie Muldoon), grandchildren Charlea and Jacob, ex-wife Lise Brisson and siblings John Borst, Mary Roblin and Brenda Chamberlain.

He was raised in Brampton by Bert and Muriel Borst, and in his younger years lived life to its fullest.  He lived and worked in Istanbul, Turkey in the late 60’s for Northern Electric and upon return to Canada set his roots down in Lakefield, Ontario where he lived on Stoney Lake. There he worked making Pioneer chainsaws at Outboard Marine and in sales at CHEX television in Peterborough. He spent the last 25 years living and working on the Livingston farm south of Ottawa. He was a complicated man with some complicated relationships, but ultimately, he enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved well made things, fast machines, cold beer and fish and chips.

A special thanks to The Livingston family, for treating Jim, Chantal and Shane like family for the last 65+ years. Also, a special thanks to the Vascular Surgery, I.C.U. and Palliative Care teams of Nurses, Doctors and Social Workers at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, and the Palliative Care team at The Saint Vincent Hospital for all of the skills, care and compassion they showed him over the last several months.

As per his wishes, there will be no service and he will be cremated. His ashes will be spread by his immediate family at a later time at locations that were special to him.
