It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Samien Son on January 9, 2024 at the Ottawa General Hospital. Leaving behind Bien Son wife of 49 years, and 3 children Samarn, Samearn and Samath along with 7 grandchildren: Devon (Samarn), Kiana, Kody (Samearn), Sierra, Matthew, Damien, Kien (Samath).
Samien and Bien were born in Cambodia and married in 1975 and shared 49 years of history always together and never apart even when they emmigrated to Canada after spending over three years in a refugee camp in Thailand to have a better life and provide a brighter future for their children. They were one of the first Cambodian decedents to arrive to Ottawa along with a couple other Cambodian families that still today share that strong bond of friendship and Cambodian culture.
Samien, was always known to be a hard worker and even had 2-3 jobs on the go at once in support of his family. Before being employed in Canada he served in the Royal Cambodian Army fighting off the Khmer Rouge. His strong work ethic was most known for and highlighted at the Hospital Food Services where Samien was recognized by giving his 35 years of service and countless perfect attendance awards. He loved his family and was proud of his children and truly enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. Samien, loved to travel, listening to Khmer Traditional music along with dining on Khmer dishes and foods or getting together for some oysters and sharing a beer. He had a love of the outdoors. One of his past times was to play cards with his fellow friends and visit the Casino from time to time.
His laughter, love of life, modesty and overall kind heart and generosity will be greatly missed but never forgotten. His memory will live on and for those that knew him will always keep those fond memories close to their heart
