Alyer Aguirre

Obituary of Alyer Aguirre

With profound sadness that we announce, Alyer (‘Al’), peacefully passed away on February 22, 2024 at the age of 82 years old. He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Elena. Much loved father of daughters Elaine (predeceased), Elmira (Chris Atwood), Eileen and son, Allan.

Al was highly respected in the Filipino community as a member of the PDTO Association, involved in publishing Pinoy newspapers and a former owner and proprietor of a Filipino convenience store. After retiring as a cartographer for Statistics Canada in 2000, he supported his community by operating a successful small business sending packages and remittances to families in the Philippines. He enjoyed spending time traveling and dining out with his wife. Al was a bit of a shutterbug capturing images that he found meaningful and interesting to share on social media. As a devoted fan of Elvis, he loved singing The King’s songs on karaoke, watching action movies, and Manny Pacquiao fights while snacking on peanuts.

Anyone who knew Al appreciated his kind, gentle nature and genuine smiles. He will be deeply cherished by his grandchildren Brandon, Trinity, Jackson, Mia, Athena and Samantha. “Brandy” and his Lolo bonded over secret jokes and solving IT challenges. All the grandchildren will have lifelong memories of Lolo’s piggyback rides, swimming in the pool with him, and dressing up as the Filipino Santa every Christmas.

A special thank you to Gloria Juanillo and the staff at Queensway Carleton Hospital for their support and assistance to the family in taking care of Al when he was ill.
