Obituary of Stavroula Sardelis
It is with great sadness that on April 1, 2024, we said goodbye to our mother Voula Sardelis, a loving mother, grandmother, a great grandmother and aunt.
Voula was born in Finikounda Greece. She emigrated to Canada in 1956 and married Fotis Sardelis in 1958.
Voula loved and was loved in return by all that knew her. She enjoyed making jokes and laughing. Voula loved to sing old cultural songs and hymns. She was deeply religious and steadfastly honoured her Greek traditions. She was an extraordinary seamstress and her culinary abilities were outstanding. All those that came to her home ate well and left with plates of food. Heaven has a new angel entertaining them.
Beloved wife of the late Fotis "Frank". Loving mother of Maria, Jim and Peter (Maggie). Cherished grandmother of Stephanie (Brendan May) Brandon, Sarah and Alexander and great grandmother of Fionn. Daughter of the late Vassiliki (Kaloyeropoulou) and late Panagiotis Papadakis of Finikounda. Sister of the late Damianos (Claire) of Ottawa, late George (late Christina), late Eleni (late Panagiotis), late Giannis (late Popi) and late Maria (late George) and late Niko of Greece.
Voula’s legacy lives on in Motion 129-Voula’s Law which protects the rights of seniors and disabled persons living in care facilities.
Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 1315 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa on Monday, April 8th. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 am, followed by the Funeral Service at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery. In Memoriam donations to the Hellenic Community of Ottawa would be appreciated.
