Hane Chang

Obituary of Hane Chang

Born on October 10, 1928, in the village of Baaklong, China, Hane Chang, 張奠賢, the first of 7 brothers and 2 sisters, moved to Pakse, Laos at the age of three months with his family.

During an introduction to a potential wife he fell in love at his first glance at his prospective partner and married Pei Yin Yae born 1932. Four children came after: Le Xieng, Somsak, Jenny, and Yon Jin.

Following their son Somsak and their daughter Jenny before him they emigrated to Thailand first, then to Ottawa, Canada in the early 1980’s to build a new life.

In the rest of his years in Canada, his favourite forms of recreation were reading the paper as well as having a particular devotion to his houseplants and garden with his wife, keeping active by harvesting an abundance of vegetables, planting flowers and saving their own seed. Their efforts were awarded when they won a neighbourhood award for their front yard for beautifying it.

Passing after 10pm on Sunday, July, 7th, 2024, he is survived by his wife, his four children, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and remains in their memories as a steady-natured man with a love of swimming and a peaceful grandfather.
