Obituary of Jean Alice Angeline Fraser

Fraser, Jean Alice Angeline

March 27, 1929-August 23, 2024

Jean Fraser passed away peacefully at the wonderful age of 95 years, at Ruddy Shenkman Hospice. Predeceased by her husband, James Allan Fraser, she leaves to mourn  her 3 children, Mark (Arlene), Martha and Roderick, grandchildren Graham (Varsha) and Brent(Julie), and 2 great grandchildren, Vihaan and Leela, and sister Ruth and brother Frank (Jessie).

Born and raised in Barrie and Gravenhurst, daughter of Jean and Stan Sugg, she was the third of seven siblings: Marion(Bob), Bert(Eileen), Jean(Allan), Frank(Jessie), Jack(Marg, Faye), Ruth(Hal),  and Bob(Judy). Jean became an RN and Public Health Nurse, working in Port Arthur, Whitney, and Brockville during her early career.

She married Allan, a geologist, and WW2 veteran. Together they raised their family in Ottawa. Jean resumed her career devoted to caring for the elderly as the “night nurse” at Central Park Lodge. On retirement Jean and Allan built a house on the beautiful Carp Ridge, living there happily for many years.

Jean and Allan were active members of the World Federalists of Canada and later the RCAF WW2 POW association.
Jean was renowned for her dry wit, mischievous smile, apple pies, and her beautiful paintings. Always showing her creative side, she dabbled in stained glass, pottery, sewing and woodworking. Researching and assembling a comprehensive family tree was yet another passion.

Jean and Allan enjoyed travel through the UK, Europe, China and North America. One of her greatest joys was berry-picking with her grandsons.

Special thanks to the Carp Commons and to the amazing caregivers at Ruddy Shenkman Hospice. Those wishing to make donations to commemorate Jean are asked to kindly donate to the Ruddy Shenkman Hospice, or to the charity of their choice.

There will be a private family graveside service.
