Obituary of Barry Patrick Purcell

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Barry Patrick Purcell, age 82, on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. Beloved husband of Louise Cardinal. Loving father of Sean (Stephanie Wood), Shannon, and stepson Raymond Cardinal (Lisa Christensen), cherished grandfather of Alexandrea, Brittany, Ryan (Arecchi - Randall Davis) Zoe, Skye, Sierra, step grandchildren Laken and Emma (Cardinal). Adored great grandfather of Avalyn & Amelia (Arecchi) and Atreus.

Predeceased by his parents Ernest Gladwin Purcell and Mary Frances Zumprelli, younger brother David (Karen Fournier) and grandson Zachary. Survived by his sister Donna (Robert McGrath).

Barry was a man with many interests and creative pursuits: skiing, boating, gardening, winemaking, travelling, handyman extraordinaire. He was a devoted family man, a loyal friend and a good neighbour. He was extremely generous, especially with the gift of his time in helping others. He will be greatly missed by his family, relatives, friends and neighbours.

Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the many physicians, nurses, support staff at the Ottawa Hospital (General Campus) and the Queensway Carleton Hospital. A very special thank you to the wonderful Palliative Care Team at St. Vincent Hospital who provided compassionate care and comfort to Barry and our family.

Friends are invited to Pinecrest Remembrance Services, 2500 Baseline Road, on Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 2-4pm, with words of remembrance at 3pm.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, Bruyère St. Vincent Hospital, Palliative Care.
